The splendor of a bronze water fountain is unrivaled by most other materials.
The sound of running water can be very reassuring to just about everyone, and it doesn’t matter if it is raindrops, a stream or a river, the sounds produce a feeling of serenity and peacefulness. When water is added to a beautiful bronze fountain, the end result will please both the eyes and the ears. Water fountains add a striking touch to almost any patio.
The making of bronze dates back six thousand years. It is a metal alloy consisting of copper and usually with tin as an additive, although aluminum, manganese, silicon and aluminum are also used. Bronze is famous for its durability, resistance to corrosion, and being less brittle than steel. Bronze is found in motor bearings, springs, bushings, tools, fittings, weatherstripping, statuary, musical instruments and other hardware. This metal has many great features, particularly when used for outdoor water fountains. Learn more on home interior and exterior water fountains.
Because of the higher manufacturing costs, bronze is normally not used for indoor water fountains. Outdoor bronze water fountains, on the other hand, exhibit a huge assortment of sizes, shapes and styles. It’s possible to buy an attractive bronze water fountain to put on your patio, or in your garden or backyard for as little as a few hundred dollars. There will be fountains that are petite and delicate-looking, just the right size for a tiny backyard, while others are huge structures, weighing more than a ton with a price tag to match. These sculptures are shaped as plants, animals, birds, butterflies, fish, mountains, and those weird monstrosities found in city parks and public squares. Because there is such a large range of water fountains offered, finding one that fits your taste and budget should be fairly painless. A note of caution: you should never introduce fish or plants into a water fountain (no matter the size) because the excessive oxygen could kill them, and the constantly falling water makes a turbulent environment, which puts a strain on the fish. If you are fortunate enough to have a pond on your land, putting in a fountain, either fixed or floating, will greatly improve the water quality through aeration, thus keeping out the naturally occurring algae. A second benefit to installing a fountain is that the flowing water works as a natural filter keeping the water clean. Once again, the falling water is particularly hard on fish and plants, so resist the urge to combine them. The biggest danger to installing a fountain in a pond is the job of getting electricity to it. Unless you know exactly how to do it, hire a qualified electrician to install the circuit. Remember, water, electricity and people don’t blend well. Or rather, maybe too well. Leaves floating on a quiet pond are far more attractive than dead people!
Assembling your own fountain is also a possibility if you are somewhat electrically and mechanically inclined. Some of the parts you will have to buy are a basin, underwater pump, tubing, electrical wiring, switches, lights and the tools necessary to assemble all of it. The topic of building your own is outside the scope of this article, but there are several websites on the Internet that have free instructions on constructing a bronze water fountain. I have put together backyard fountains in the past using rocks and mortar (but not bronze) so here’s important advice: carefully plan it on paper before you start work so you can avoid the pain of having to redo the parts that don’t complement your garden.
