Having a baby can be one of the happiest, and most stressful, times of any woman’s life. There is joy in knowing that a new life is coming into the world, while there is, of course, also worry over every little thing. Especially worrisome for many expectant mothers and couples is preparing a home for the baby’s arrival, and making sure that everything is ready to bring baby home. One of the toughest decisions to make in readying a home for a new baby is what to look for in baby bedding. Baby bedding sets are so diverse and abundant that it can be hard to make the right decision, but with a few guidelines, it’s easier to choose the most beautiful and comfortable bedding for any arriving baby.
The first, and most important, thing to consider when choosing a baby bedding set is the gender of the expected baby. There will be different color palettes for boys and girls, as well as different themes for the sets and nurseries. Baby boys will need bedding sets in shades of blue, green, or red while baby girls will need bedding in shades of pink, purple, and yellow. There are, of course, other colors to look at, but these are the standards and the basics of what can be found. If the gender of the baby is not known, colors such as yellow and pale green should be chosen.
The second consideration is whether or not there is an overall theme for the nursery that the bedding needs to match. There are many bedding sets available to fit with most any theme parents can come up with , but it is best not to mix and match themes inside of a single nursery. For example, if the theme of the rest of the nursery involves fire engines, it would not make sense to have a baby bedding set in a farm animals theme. Keeping everything uniform will create the best look.
The next, and probably most important, thing to consider is the bedding itself. Good baby bedding should be made of high quality materials, and it is generally accepted that cotton is best. The material should be extremely soft to the touch, as a baby’s skin is much more sensitive than an adult’s, and there should be no exposed seams or embroidery to irritate that sensitive skin. Baby bedding sets also come in seasonal materials, which are a good idea if a baby is due in winter or summer. Heavier materials for bedding will keep babies warm and lighter materials will keep them cool with drastic temperature changes.
Finally, cost should not be ignored when choosing baby bedding sets. With so many designers now offering baby bedding, the cost to outfit a nursery can get truly outrageous. A smart shopper will have a firm budget in mind, and not exceed what is available to spend. With so many wonderful choices out there for baby bedding sets, anyone should be able to find something that will suit at any budget.
